Everyone carries a camera with them these days on their cell phone, and these cameras have gotten more and more sophisticated with each new phone. While these are great for taking everyday photos of your kids, there are several reasons why you should should sometimes hire a professional photographer.
PROS HAVE THE GEAR (AND KNOW HOW TO USE IT)
Professional photographers spend thousands of dollars on professional gear, including camera bodies, lenses and lighting equipment.
I own an up to date, professional quality camera (I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark IV) as well as a back-up camera in case of failure (I have a Canon 5D Mark III), professional lenses (my camera bag has a Canon 24-70 4.0L, Canon 85 1.8, Canon 135 1.4, Sigma Art 35 1.4), lighting equipment and light modifiers. Since I am running a business, I want to be prepared for all scenarios, so I am never letting my clients down. Not only does that require me to have the tools for the job (and back-up!), but the knowledge of how to use it.
PROS INVEST IN EDUCATION
True professionals are always learning. While the basics of photography might not change, the industry is constantly changing. I spend a lot of my non-shooting, non-editing time learning and watching webinars, reading blogs and professional forums, searching for inspiration. Pros join organizations where they can network with colleagues and learn from each other; they attend workshops and seminars.
PROS HAVE EXPERIENCE
I have been shooting professionally for over 11 years, and have over 30 years of photography experience. I have worked with hundreds of clients, and am able to adapt if your newborn won’t settle, or if your two-year old isn’t in the mood to smile. I know the best times and locations to get the best outdoor images, and can deal with the changing light of outdoor locations.
No filters here, each image is shot in raw format and hand-editing to complete the final image. I use Lightroom and Photoshop to make your images magical. In addition to always learning photography techniques, I am always learning editing techniques as well.
ARCHIVAL IMAGES TO PASS DOWN THROUGH GENERATIONS
Professional photographers have access to professional labs to make prints and albums that last, and can be passed down to your grandchildren.
